Limitless RC

In 2024, Scott Heemstra faced a devastating setback. His business, Limitless RC, an indoor carpet racetrack and hobby store, was a total loss after a fire. Determined to rebuild, Scott started scouting locations for a new, better home for his company. He found it in an abandoned 17,000-square-foot grocery store in Millington, a small community just a few miles north with a population of 1,000.

Scott knew he needed significant capital to make his business the destination he envisioned – a community hub that would be a gathering place and increase the number of jobs in the area. His loan advisor recommended Scott reach out to the Michigan SBDC, where he was connected with Senior Business Consultant Harry Blecker.

Scott admits that when they first met, he was “very unorganized” with “100 things going on at once”. Harry helped Scott pull everything together, assisting with financial forecasting, strategic planning, and creating spreadsheets to better understand his numbers. The result was a solid business plan, setting the stage for future growth.

Now back on its feet, Limitless RC is focused on expanding its social media marketing efforts. The business is projected to create about 10 new jobs, bringing new vitality to the community.

According to Harry, who finds working with unique businesses like Limitless RC rewarding, he’s proud to see how Scott has helped the Millington community.

For his part, Scott is grateful for the support. “Thank you to the Michigan SBDC for helping us pick up the pieces and prepare a solid foundation for what’s coming next,” he said.
