A new culinary gem has opened its doors in Jackson, offering residents a delightful blend of authentic Italian flavors and expertly crafted cocktails. This intimate pasta restaurant, Love, Pasta, with just 12 tables and a cozy bar that seats another eight, is the brainchild of Mariel and Ridge Frew who are known for their expertise in the world of craft cocktails.
The Frews, who spent years perfecting the art of mixology, initially set out to open a bar that would serve as a haven for cocktail enthusiasts. However, as they considered the local dining scene, they discovered a need for a high-quality restaurant that could complement their drink offerings and wine and beer lists. This realization sparked the idea to create a space where patrons could not only enjoy a full bar menu but also indulge in a menu of carefully crafted pasta dishes.
The restaurant’s menu is a celebration of Italy’s rich culinary heritage, featuring fresh, handmade pasta prepared with the finest ingredients. Each dish pairs perfectly with regional wines or handcrafted cocktails, ensuring a harmonious dining experience. From classic favorites like Pasta Bolognese to more adventurous offerings, there’s something for every pasta lover.
Despite its small size, the restaurant’s ambiance is warm and inviting, making it the perfect spot for a cozy dinner or a casual night out with friends. The bar, which sits at the heart of the space, offers a front-row seat to the art of cocktail-making. “Our goal is to make people feel like they’re having dinner at a friend’s house. Everyone is family when they’re here,” exclaims Mariel.
The owners’ experience in the restaurant industry is evident in every aspect of the establishment, from the thoughtful menu to the attentive service. Their passion for both food and drink has created a unique dining destination that is quickly becoming a favorite among locals.
Starting a restaurant is no small task. The Frews enlisted the help of Tom DuMont and Erin DuBois at Chelsea State Bank, and the Michigan SBDC’s Associate Regional Director Shawn Preissle. Together they built a business plan to make their vision a reality.
