There’s something transformative about stepping into a salon and walking out feeling like your best self. For Savoya Dillard, that feeling has long been a source of inspiration—and it’s now the heartbeat of her business, Plush Beauty & Spa, in Lansing.

Savoya received business coaching from the Michigan SBDC through LEAP’s One and All program. She came into the program with grit, hustle, and a dream—and today, she’s transformed that dream into a thriving reality.

But success didn’t come without its share of hurdles.

“In the beginning, I didn’t have my esthetician license,” Savoya shared. “I had kids to care for and it was hard to juggle work and school at the same time.”

Despite the difficulties, Savoya went back to school while being a stay-at-home mom, and after completing her training, she opened her first salon. Her first business, Luscious Lashes, became a foundation for her future. “I was overwhelmed trying to do everything on my own. I had several stylists and no manager. I realized I needed a better support system.” She paused Luscious Lashes to restrategize.

Today, that support system is strong. Her boyfriend has invested in her vision. Her sister, a licensed esthetician, is stepping in as salon manager. And her original team of stylists? Many are eager to continue on with her new expansion of Plush Beauty & Spa.

Savoya’s journey is about more than lashes, silk presses, or beauty bundles—it’s about resilience. She’s now the proud owner of a luxury one-stop-shop salon, offering services from lash extensions and waxing to hairstyling, esthetics and more. Plush Beauty & Spa is designed for the busy woman who wants it all done—hair, makeup, lashes—in one place, and all in one visit if she chooses.

“I don’t know of any other one-stop shop like this in Lansing,” she said. “It’s about convenience, confidence, selfcare —and walking out feeling like the best version of yourself .”

Beyond beauty, Savoya is a mother of five, and giving back to her community is a core part of her mission. She’s hosted back-to-school events, pop-ups, and plans to offer kids’ spa parties and bridal events in the future. Her dream doesn’t stop there—she envisions expanding to cities like Detroit, Grand Rapids, and even out-of-state to create a full chain of Plush Beauty & Spa locations. Eventually, she wants to return to school for nursing and transform her salon into a med spa offering Botox, fillers and more.

“Actually stepping out on faith and reopening the salon. I had so many doubts, but I did it.” In that one sentence lives the heart of her story—overcoming fear, pushing past uncertainty, and choosing courage when comfort would’ve been easier. It’s a milestone that marks not just a business reopening, but a woman rising fully into her purpose —and building something bigger and bolder than ever before.

Savoya shared, “Millie Chu at the Michigan SBDC helped me understand my finances, budgeting, tracking profits, and building a foundation,” Additionally, the mentorship at LEAP helped shape her business mindset.

Her advice to other aspiring entrepreneurs?
“Don’t be hard on yourself. Take your time, know what’s required, pray, and stay positive. You can do anything through Christ who strengthens you.”

Plush Beauty & Spa is more than a salon—it’s a testament to dreaming big, focusing on your vision, and rising stronger.
