U.P. Fun with Friends

400 US Route 41, Suite 106, Negaunee, Michigan 49866

What’s a parent to do when you have kids with outdoor energy but it’s 20 degrees below zero? You let them loose indoors – just not in your house. Dell Kab of Negaunee spotted an opportunity to create an indoor family fun center for just such an occasion, and appropriately dubbed it U.P. Fun With Friends.

“I have an 8-year-old, and there were times when I was at a loss with what to do with him on cold or rainy days. Parents often struggle with where and how to keep their children entertained,” said Dell, an immigrant from Algiers. “I had a dream of starting a business.  Regardless of your political view, this is an amazing country with a lot of opportunity if you have a dream and work hard to make it a reality.”

Dell reached out to the MI-SBDC and got connected with business consultant Lance Wolfe, who helped with getting the business set up. “Lance is an ally on my team. At first he questioned me a lot, in a good way. We built a solid business plan, including revenue projections. He encouraged me to dig deeper, shedding light on different parts of the business,” said Dell.

The colorful gym located on US 41 is open every day except Mondays from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. and includes a bounce house, an area for gymnastics, a climbing wall, a miniature golf course and an area for bean bag toss. In addition, there’s a dedicated party room for birthday parties or crafts. Plans for the future include features that appeal to broader demographics, including toddlers and adults.

“We’re measuring success by being a bright spot in our community and having a positive impact. We’re a place where great family memories are made,” concluded Dell.
