Ammonia Storage and Transport as Hydrogen Carrier and Maritime Fuel
amhytech.com

AmHyTech is a Detroit-based clean energy company that is revolutionizing how we handle ammonia, a chemical poised to become a major clean fuel and a way to transport hydrogen. While ammonia is a powerful energy source, its widespread use has been held back by its toxicity and the need for expensive, risky, and complex storage in high-pressure or super-cold tanks.

AmHyTech solves this problem with a breakthrough technology that allows ammonia to be stored and transported safely at ambient conditions, including room temperature and low pressure. This simple but radical shift is a huge advantage, as it improves safety by over 99% compared to traditional methods. AmHyTech’s solution is a “drop-in” platform that can be used easily at ports, rail yards, hydrogen refueling hubs, and power plants.

AmHyTech has four full-time employees based in Detroit since October 2024. It utilizes Michigan-based resources, including Newlab @ Michigan Central for machine shop work and TechTown for consulting on accounting, cash flow forecasting, and financial modeling. Additionally, the company rents a spacious lab at Wayne State Innovation Campus, supporting local economic growth, creating jobs, and contributing to the development of Detroit and the state of Michigan.
