Let’s talk about starting your cybersecurity program for your small business! Have you started your small business’s cybersecurity program? If you have not, there is no better time than during National Cybersecurity Awareness Month. No matter how small your business, it is important to understand you are still a target to cyber criminals and to plan accordingly.

Starting your cybersecurity program

You may not know where to start, you may think it is something that is too expensive, or you may even think you have nothing a cyber criminal is after and that they will leave you alone, but I am here to tell you that you can start one by looking at the resources at Small Business, Big Threat, that they do not need to be expensive, and no business is too small for a cyber criminal.

One of the best places to start is by simply taking our interactive learning course. After completing our course checkout our Cybersecurity Tools list for a list of inexpensive solutions. Lastly, check out our Cybersersecurity Small Business Awareness Canvas, can you answer all of the questions found in it about your small business?

What next?

After checking out the many resources we offer, one of the very first things you can do is start to engage your employees and raise their awareness and education on cybersecurity. Talk to them regularly about different phishing emails you might have received or by talking about the importance of being vigilant for phishing emails.

Another great starting point is to fully understand the type of data you process and store. This will help you identify your most confidential data, which is the data you need to protect the most.
